Healthy Meals Cookbooks Lisa Recommends
If you're at a point where you really want to make healthy meals for yourself and your family, but don't know where to start or are confused about what's REALLY healthy and what's really hype, I recommend two books:
Debra's Natural Gourmet, Debra Stark
I found this in a craft store, surprisingly. It has become one of my favorites! Not only does Debra give a variety of dishes, from appetizers, soups, and salads to entrees and desserts, but she also includes a little bit of information about the healthful benefits of ingredients withing the recipe. don't let the title fool you, though. The majority of them are very simple to fix (I like simple!).
You'll see some healthy versions of familiar dishes as well as foods you might never have cooked with or even heard of but are surprisingly tasty! There are even a few "beauty treatment" recipes as well (like a Strawberry Toning Mask).
Some recipe examples are:
South-of-the-Border Chicken and Black Bean Soup
Spinach and Endive Caesar Salad
Oven-Roasted Vegetables
Cheesy Black Bean Burritos
Good Morning Waffles
Rice Crispy Squares
The Healthiest Meals on Earth, Jonny Bowden
For the more adventurous pallet and those who like to add flare to their food and learn about ingredients. Jonny, an acclaimed nutritionist, shares these recipes with you along with information about their health benefits.
Choose from recipes such as:
Wild Mushroom-Crusted Sirloin
Black Bean Cakes
Tai-Spiced Mango and Prawns
Citrus-Stuffed Herb Turkey
Also check out some of my other favs:
Power Foods, Stephanie Beling, M.D.
Eat to Beat Cancer, J. Robert Hatherill
The Fat Flush Cookbook, Anne Louise Gittleman
Staying Healthy with Nutrition, Elson Haas, M.D. (a very thick nutrition education book, but lots of great recipes at the end)
Happy Holidays and Live Fully!
