Would You Drown or Grab the Life Preserver?

I recently started a women's work-life balance group to help women better manage their multiple roles and responsibilities and achieve more of their important life goals.

A few of the women who came to the introductory meeting said how much they enjoyed the group and shared some of their struggles with "trying to juggle it all" and how they really needed something like this.

Then came the, "But....

...I just don't have time for it right now." or
...I just can't afford it right now."

And so, they backed out of the opportunity that they clearly (in their own words) needed, enjoyed, and would benefit from.

As an expert in human nature, I know that these are just seemingly valid excuses the mind comes up with based on limited perceptions that really just keep us stuck. My reply to them was similar to what I have below:

Time Excuse
Often, we can be like a drowning person who is too busy flailing their arms about to try to stay above water that they don't see the life ring that has been thrown to them. Or we see it but think, "I can't reach for that—I'm too busy trying to stay afloat," yet it is the very thing that will bring us to safety if we will just reach for it, grab on, and allow ourselves to be pulled in.

Money Excuse
I know that there is a really strong mindset of "lack" being built up by the media and others around us right now, but the truth is that people spend money on the things they really want. In this case, the monthly expense for the group was less than the cost of a manicure or a dinner for two at a family restaurant. And what would the long-range impact of those things be compared to what this group was offering these women?

Humans are very resourceful creatures. They find ways to have time/money for things that are important to them. One of my clients used to drive 90 minutes each way to come see me because she wanted help badly enough. And now she AND her family are happier. Another client got creative and decided to donate blood plasma to pay for our sessions—not only did she get help, but someone else benefitted from her plasma!

How many times in your life have you been thrown a life preserver only to turn it down because of such limited thinking? Are you still just "getting by" or struggling to keep your head above water with no end in sight?

No matter what is going on in your life right now that is causing you to struggle, I GUARANTEE that help is always available in some form if you ask for it, are open to seeing it, and grab it!

ASK.  BELIEVE.  RECEIVE.

Live Fully!
